Windsurfing: Hillhead Wind Direction: SW Wind Stength: 18-28 knots Surf / Sea State: Choppy Air Temperature: Mild (12ºC) Sea Temperature: OK (9ºC) Weather: Sunshine! Max Speed: Distance Covered:
Turned up at 12.30pm. 5.5 weather. I only had a 6.0, but thought it would
be OK. Pulled out the JP from the car and ARRRGHHHHH there was a ding on
the tail. Must have happened when I was putting it in the car
ARRRRGGGGHHHHH I am a fool.
Drove to Andy Biggs in Gosport to buy some Dr Ding and....a new 5.2!!!! In
as new condition, didn't look like it had ever been on the water, but £100
cheaper. Nice.
Got back to the beach, ummed and arrred but rigged up the 6.0 - didn't want
to be underpowered. My parents arrived to say hello on their way back home
from weekend in Portsmouth whilst I was getting ready. Thought I would be
OK on the 6.0 but I wasn't. Not too overpowered but water was mucho mucho
choppy and I was have great difficulty keeping the big board on the water.
Came in after 3 runs, and reluctantly decided to change down to the 5.2 and
the Quattro.
It was worth the effort. Although a bit underpowered at first, wind kept on
picking up. For about 45 mins it was just right. Perfectly powered up,
making most gybes (always good news when on the teeny weeny Quattro), some
nice jumps, going for duck gybes on the inside and getting closer to
success with them than I thought I would. The new sail felt damn good,
really light and responsive, made the duck gybe attempts easier than I
thought they would be.
Wind continued to pick up. Flattened the 5.2 right off, but was still
overpowered. Could easily have been on the 4.5 by the end. Came in around
4.30pm, absolutely cream crackered after 3 hours on the water. Tired but
happy. Quality session, windy mild and sunny. If only the weather was like
this all the time here.
